Stop by Dream in Plastic the second Saturday in March to explore the photography of Audrey Lodato.
Audrey Lodato has been fascinated with abandoned places for as long as she can remember, and has spent the last fifteen years documenting them. Learning about their history and showing that their history continues is the driving force behind Lodato's work. She has documented hundreds of empty places across the U.S. and Canada. Among... her favorite locations are abandoned mental institutions and the empty resort hotels of the Catskills.
Lodato photographs digitally with a Canon 50d, and with a series of vintage film cameras. She cherishes her beloved Rolleiflex, which once belonged to her Grandfather. Lodato is self taught and has no formal photography schooling.
She strives for simplicity in her work, always looking to portray a place or person as accurately as possible. A lover of natural light, she will revisit the same location many times to get a perfect shot, and enjoys the relationship she forms with an abandoned place. Her influences include Joel Meyerowitz and David Halliday.
Lodato lives in Newburgh, New York, and is also the Shelter Manager for Mid Hudson Animal Aid Cat Sanctuary, in Beacon. At home, she loves to spend time with her husband and their four cats, dog and bird.
