November Apples Tastings
“Surely the apple is the noblest of fruits.” — Henry David Thoreau, Wild Apples
We’ll be celebrating the noble apple all month long here at Fishkill Farms, and showcasing the diversity of varieties we grow with three very special tasting events. At them, we’ll sample over 30 unique varieties of apples from modern to heirloom, serve boozy apple cider cocktails, and be joined by some of our favorite apple spirits and hard cider producers who’ll sample their goods. The tastings will culminate with our annual pig roast on Saturday the 21st.
Many folks never look beyond the six or seven varieties available in the supermarket, but in fact there are over 7,500 types of apples grown throughout the world. Over the past few years, we’ve planted 60 of our favorite kinds here at Fishkill Farms. And for the first time this year, they've given us a bumper crop of unique varieties. We’ll be celebrating the successful harvest all month with the following tastings:
Saturdays in November. Free Admission & Cider Cocktails at all tastings!
Nov. 7th 2-5pm: Apples & Pears from Around the World

Nov. 14th 2-5pm: Apples of New York and America
Apples are the quintessential American fruit, and many of the best apple varieties grown today originated in New York and other regions in the Northeast. We’ll taste the oldest American variety, the Roxbury Russet, along with Esopus Spitzenberg (Thomas Jefferson’s favorite apple) and new classics like the Honeycrisp from Minnesota.
Special Guest: Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery

Nov. 21st 12-5pm: Annual Pig Roast, Organic & Hard Cider Apples

2-5pm Organic & Hard Cider Apple Tasting. We’ll sample some of the newest and oldest apple varieties, from new disease-resistant apples suited to organic production (and grown organically here) such as Crimson Crisp, Pixie Crunch and Goldrush, to the oldest American apple, the Roxbury Russet.
Special Guest: Andy Brennan, Aaron Burr Cidery
Hot Mulled Cider
All fruit sampled will be homegrown, and either minimally treated or grown entirely organically.
